Halo & Feather

Halo & Feather

Faces Worth Meeting · January 7, 2026

Brick-red halo like a sunburned coin. A curtain of snow-white hair. That inky bird wing, scratched with little carved feather-lines.

This feels holy and slightly mischievous at the same time. She’s calm, almost bored… while holding something that looks like it flew in from a myth. The rose pattern isn’t “pretty,” either. It’s insistence. Like the fabric is whispering a hundred tiny vows at once.

It’s Russian Orthodox icon energy, but simplified into modern printmaking muscle. Think traditional icon painting filtered through Natalia Goncharova’s bold, graphic spirit: flat fields, sacred symbols, zero unnecessary chatter.

Mini art lesson: this is the power of a limited palette. When you restrict the colors (cream, red, midnight), your brain stops shopping and starts feeling. Then you add one dominant shape (that halo) and everything else snaps into place around it. Simple shapes read fast. Fast reads stop thumbs.

Fun fact for dinner: in Christian art, the eagle is one of the four “living creatures” (the tetramorph) and often symbolizes John the Evangelist. So yes, that wing can be read as protection… or as a quiet flex. Depends how your day’s going.
