Still Wearing Pink
Today, pink means something.
My sister’s favorite color was pink. We lost her in 2006 to cancer, and every year on her birthday my family wears something pink in her memory.
That context changes how the image behaves. A color that might otherwise read as fashion, decoration or mood becomes a personal marker. The visual fact stays the same; the emotional meaning does not.
Artists have always relied on that relationship between image and context. What we know before or after looking can completely alter what a color, object or gesture carries with it. Here, pink is doing more than making the picture beautiful. It is holding a memory.
