Coincidence—or a signature?
A colossal circle hangs above the horizon, half pale moon, half burning sun. Far below, one tiny traveler has stopped to look up, which feels like the only reasonable response when the universe starts showing off.
Here’s the astonishing part: the Sun is about 400 times wider than the Moon, yet it’s also about 400 times farther from Earth. That improbable geometry makes them appear nearly identical in size from where we stand. When they align, the Moon can cover the Sun almost perfectly and create a total solar eclipse.
